What is Safari Niagara?
Safari Niagara is a 150-acre nature park located in Stevensville, Ontario, and is home to over 1000 mammals, reptiles and birds. Founded in 2002 by the Tykolis family, Safari Niagara is an award winning, Canadian Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) and Zoological Association of America (ZAA) facility.
How did Safari Niagara come about?
Safari Niagara’s owners Tim Tykolis, Terry Tykolis and Marianne Tykolis- Casey paid tribute to their father’s love of animals by opening a Zoological Park in his honour.
Upon his passing in 1992, his three children, Terry, Marianne and Tim brought his collection inside the Stevensville Garden Gallery and named this area Papa Steve’s, in his recognition. Over time larger species of animals were purchased and housed on the parcel of land behind the Garden Gallery. The collection started to grow to the point that one day the family realized this collection of animals should be shared.
The Tykolis’ together with a team of professionals created a master plan, which would be constructed in phases over the years to come. The first phase was successfully completed with the grand opening of “ZOOZ” now known as Safari Niagara on May 18th 2002.
Why did you decide to use MoRK?
The other record keeping systems were beyond the budget of our facility. MoRK offers an extensive filing system that encompasses all of the requirements needed to efficiently document the necessary information at a far more reasonable cost while still maintaining the same efficiencies of higher cost record keeping systems.
Which part of MoRK do you like using the most?
I personally like the reports and the ease of use for data entry. Having switched our record keeping system over it was quite daunting at first. MoRK allows the transfer of files with ease and builds a very organized filing system for each and every animal within our collection to encompass all aspects for husbandries, nutrition, veterinary care, daily observations and much more.
How do you work with MoRK support?
MoRK support is fast and efficient; questions are answered with very detailed steps that allow us to implement information quickly with minimal down time.
How has MoRK helped you with your company’s record keeping?
MoRK has given our facility the ability to connect all Animal Care staff together so that each area benefits from the record keeping system. With the ability to control content by user, this program allows staff to have the required information at their fingertips while working in the park allowing staff the ability to enter information instantly into the appropriate notes files via their smart phone or iPod.
How will MoRK make your company more efficient?
MoRK offers a cost effective means of managing all animal related records. It is easily accessible anywhere within the facility. Reports are created at the touch of a key with professional results.
Staff can also be managed with individual tabs for all keepers allowing for the input of information such as job descriptions, policies and procedures or daily tasks that need addressing in their areas of work.
